Easter Adventure at Lanhydrock
Easter is one of the most exciting times of the year, as the world starts to wake up from its winter slumber and the landscape transforms into a sea of colour. This is especially true in Cornwall and the grounds of Lanhydrock Hotel. It’s a truly incredible time to pay the county – and our little corner of it – a visit.
So, we thought we’d lend a hand and create a list of some wonderful Cornish adventures to keep you entertained during your stay with us…
The Great Gardens of Cornwall
We’ll start with a bit of a cheat, with this collection of 13 of the largest, most historically and horticulturally important gardens in Cornwall.
Any of these gardens are obviously a sight to behold across the Easter period as they return to their full glory, but we naturally have a slight bias towards Tregrehan, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Trewithen Gardens – our closest neighbours!
Did you know that spring is officially announced in Cornwall once 300 blooms appear on champion magnolia campbellii across six sites all found within the Great Gardens group – at 50 blooms each, no matter where you go you’re in for a treat!
Wild Swimming
Whilst the words ‘wild swimming’ usually conjure images of wading through the ocean, here at Lanhydrock we’re lucky enough to have some truly incredible inland swimming spots right on our doorstep.
Cardinham Moor Lakes, Gold Diggings Quarry and the Fowey River are all stunningly beautiful spots that are equally well suited for a dip as they are a picnic pit-stop.
The arrival of spring also brings slightly warmer waters (key word being ‘slightly,’ you’ll still get that refreshing hit that only freshwater can give!) meaning you can spend that little bit longer luxuriating in the healing waters and emerge feeling totally restored.
Head to our existing blog post for details on how to get to these spots – and a few more!
Walking Routes
Carrying on with our connection with nature, Easter is the perfect time to dust off your walking boots and take the family exploring!
At Lanhydrock Hotel, we are blessed to be nestled away in our own little corner of Cornish paradise, and are a stone’s throw away from the neighbouring National Trust estate, Lanhydrock House and Gardens.
For those looking to go slightly further afield, routes through gorgeous spots such as Cardinham Woods, Bailey’s Trail and the Deer Wall Walk are only a short drive away. There’s nothing we love more than seeing our guests return after an afternoon falling in love with a brand new find.
No matter where you go, we’ll be here waiting for you to return with a warm drink from Nineteen Bar and Bistro, and a cosy bed in your hotel room.
The Eden Project
A family favourite year-round, but Easter at Eden is truly special as the seasons change. Technically the Eden Project is also part of the Great Gardens group too, but you’ll forgive us for getting extra excited about one of Cornwall’s crowning jewels!
Naturally the famous biomes remain as beautiful, fascinating and educational as ever over Easter, but the surrounding gardens themselves come to life in their own right at this magical time of year.
A host of unique activities for the kids also pop up over the holidays, whilst the cafés offer a change for the parents to chill against a truly postcard-worthy backdrop.
Entry to the Eden Project is booking only, so get your tickets pronto!
The Minack Theatre
Perched right on the edge of the cliffs at Porthcurno, The Minack Theatre has been inspiring visitors since its initial construction back in the 1920s.
Whilst it’s not quite show season just yet, it’s still an incredible location to visit for a stunning view and walking route. Tours are available of the open air dome and offer a great chance to learn about the history of this iconic venue and its equally iconic creator, the now 90-year-old Rowena Cade.
Even if you’re just only after a moment to yourself and to breathe the sea air in, the resident café is available for a recharging drink, snack and that bit of peace.
If it truly captures your heart, tickets are on sale for as little as £10 across the summer!
