Autumnal walks around Lanhydrock Hotel 🍁

As the leaves turn from the lush greens of summer to the warm hues of autumn, it’s time to dust off your walking boots and embrace the many wonderful walking trails that Cornwall has to offer.

At Lanhydrock Hotel, we are blessed to be nestled away in our own little corner of countryside paradise, and are a stone’s throw away from the neighbouring National Trust estate, Lanhydrock House and Gardens. This means that there are plenty of amazing walks on our doorstep, and what better way to finish a walk than by putting your feet up and getting cosy with a hot drink and some delicious food from our Nineteen Bar and Bistro?

To give you a helping hand, we’ve listed four of our favourite walks in the area that we know you’ll love, and will certainly work you up a big appetite for paying us a visit afterwards!

Lanhydrock House loop from Bazley’s Trail

Starting off with a quick and simple loop, at just 1.6 miles, this 45-minute walk will give you a great introduction to the area. Staying within the Lanhydrock House grounds, the walk is very flexible and allows you to go off and explore the grounds in as much depth as you’d like before making your way back to the car park. The beautiful woodland is a treat to wander around at this time of year, with the crisp, fallen leaves crunching underfoot and plenty of wildlife still around to try and spot, not to mention the inspiring architecture of the Lanhydrock Estate to admire.

Lanhydrock Deer Wall Walk

You’ll walk through the ages with this 4.3 mile circular walk around the wider Lanhydrock Estate, ambling through peaceful woodlands, walking over the medieval Respryn bridge and along the banks of the River Fowey. There’s plenty of sights to look out for, from the ancient medieval deer wall, to the quarry from the industrial era, to the Victorian woodland garden – not to mention the breathtaking views of the valley! It’s definitely a walk that’ll leave you feeling wholesome and happy…

Lanhydrock to Restormel

This 5.3 mile walk to one of the four Norman castles of Cornwall should always be on the walking agenda when visiting the area. Look out for 400-year-old oak trees, as well as kingfishers and otters enjoying the river as you stroll alongside the River Fowey and through the ancient woodlands of Higginsmoor. The highlight of this hike is of course Restormel Castle, which is famed for its perfectly circular keep (and makes a great spot for a picnic in the summer!) Wandering back to Respryn through Duchy woodlands and along Cornish lanes boasting stunning views of the surrounding countryside is the perfect end to this trundle.

Wheal Glynn trail at Cardinham Woods

North-east of Lanhydrock Hotel lies one of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets, tucked away between rolling hills, Cardinham Woods is a great woodland for walkers. With marked trails differing in length and terrain, there are walks for all abilities; the Wheal Glynn trail is a perfect middle-ground route at 2.5 miles. A peaceful and picturesque walk through the woodland coupled with a steeper ascent to old Wheal Glynn mine makes for a relaxing and awe-inspiring trek. Rising out of the forest, the old ‘bubble mine’ chimney is like something from a fairytale, a magical sight that will certainly leave you breathless.
